Music
At St. Mark’s we celebrate the redemptive love of God, model the servanthood of Christ, and transform the passion of the Holy Spirit. Our ministries focus on Christian-centered music and fellowship, the sharing of the Gospel, and the mutual concern for others through fervent prayer. Our goal is to present our ministries of praise for all people through diversity of style and opportunity. Our ministries are open to everyone of all ages and talents, and we welcome you to share your musical gifts with St. Mark's.
TRADITIONAL WORSHIP SERVICE
The traditional services at St. Mark’s now include all types of music - from traditional anthems to more contemporary specials. Through offering these diversified styles of music we continually seek to include the varied musical tastes of our congregation.
Opportunities in Traditional worship:
- Sanctuary Choir: Our 40-plus-member choir* offers anthems on a regular basis during worship services and for other special occasions, and provides seasonal musical experiences two or three times a year. This group is open to anyone – from the music novice to the music major – with no audition required. Anyone from 6th grade up is welcome. The choir members meet on Wednesday nights at 7pm for rehearsal.
- Small Ensembles: St. Mark’s offers people the opportunity to sing in men’s groups or ladies’ groups, in solos or duets, and/or to be a part of instrumental ensembles. We would love for you to share your musical talents with us, whatever they might be. Percussion, guitar, bass, strings, and wind instruments are regularly featured throughout our services. These groups are fluid, changing frequently, so that many have the opportunity to be a part of our music ministry. These musicians meet at whatever times are most convenient to their specific members.
- Handbells: St. Mark’s has a 3-octave set of handbells, with our ringers playing a variety of music styles. The group plays stand-alone handbell pieces and also accompanies the choir, as well as individual singers. No prior experience is required to join our ringers – a love of music is all you need. The handbell choir meets on Sundays at 5pm.
- Children and Youth: St. Mark’s strongly encourages the love of music in our children and youth. As well as teaching music, our children’s and youth’s ministries personnel provide leadership and other opportunities for these groups. You may contact Anna McGough for children’s music information or Stephen Craig for youth music information.
- Other Art Forms: In addition to music, we incorporate liturgical dance, drama, graphic art and other artistic mediums into our services. We welcome your gifts and talents. Please let us know how you might contribute to our ministries at St. Mark’s.
11th HOUR CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP SERVICE:
The 11th Hour Contemporary Worship Service offers modern worship with influences from a wide variety of styles. We believe that there is a need for Christ-centered worship that uplifts our congregation and challenges them as a willing and powerful body of the Church. Providing God's truth in the context of a contemporary style makes it more accessible and engaging to a younger generation who is constantly under attack from Satan and the world.
