The scripture for this sermon can be found in Mark 1: 21-28. The faithful Jews knew what to expect when they went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day. The usual hymns, prayer, laws read, comments made by scribes, but the order of worship went slightly different the Sabbath Jesus went to the synagogue to teach. It is noted that he spoke with authority not by what had been said by other teachers. The order of worship took an even different turn when a demon possed man stood up and confronted Jesus. Rev. Coile explains how these events on that Sabbath reveal the tension that was being built between Jesus's new message and the "Old Time Religion" of the Scribes and Pharisees. Rev. Coile asks "Is the "Old Time Religion" really what we need?"
Todd Bobo solos on saxophone on the song "In Jesus' Name."
Rev. Sandra Thomas leads the congregation in hymns of praise: "O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing", "Only Trust Him", and closing with "Freely, Freely."
